An Intramedullary Rod, The Tibial Distractor™, A Tibia Fracture Repair Aid
The Tibial Distractor™ is specifically designed to help an orthopedic surgeon in the insertion of an intramedullary rod for a tibia fracture. The Tibial Distractor™ provides distraction with rotation of the tibia for reduction and axial alignment of the fracture. This is achieved by first attaching the patient’s foot to the Half Ring Traction Bow by using a 4 mm - 5 mm Calcaneous Pin, as skeletal traction is still considered one of the best means for fracture reduction.
Axial alignment is achieved by rotating the Half Ring Traction Bow and locking it with the Center Thumbscrew. Distraction is accomplished first by the Gross Distractor Knob and finalized with the Fine Distractor Knobs. The Tibial Distractor™ significantly reduces exposure of radiation to the surgeons and their assistants by eliminating the need for manual distraction during reaming and rod insertion. The Tibial Distractor™ can be flash sterilized for multiple cases and can be used with any OR table, eliminating the time consuming setup of a fracture table. Design specific sterile latex free foam pads protect the patient’s popliteal structures during surgery.
A tibia fracture requiring an intramedullary rod can be improved when using the Tibial Distractor™ to reduce radiation exposure, setup time, and improved patient outcome.
